Jack's New Version
of FETCH!!
of FETCH!!
Puppies have been playing fetch for millions of years now (cats - not so much). So I've decided we need to change up the rules a bit.
(For those puppies who like playing the OLD way, you can still play that way too. Remember, we are puppies - we can do pretty much whatever we want and our peoples will still love us!)
Step 1: Get ready! Wait for your person to throw the ball! Concentrate - don't let them fake you out when they pretend to throw it but keep it in their hand. (I'm onto you tall guy!!)
Step 2: Run after the ball as fast as you can!
Step 3: And here's the new part. Run off into the shade. Then you can chew on the ball while the tall guy has to walk ALL THE WAY to where you are. Now, isn't that more fun than taking it back every time? I thought so too!
See. You get exercise AND clean teeth at the same time! AND the tall guy gets exercise too because you are like 50 miles away from where he threw the ball! It's a WIN-WIN for everyone! :)
Next time: Jack's New Version of Going for a walk! See you then!
We are on the edge of our paws waiting to this New Version of Going for a walk!

Hey! I know someone who has played that version of ball before! *cough* Simba *cough* In fact, thats the only kind of fetch he plays anymore. Such a dissapointment when you own a retriever, huh? LOL
ReplyDeleteIf TG wanted the ball, he shouldn't have thrown it away, right? You went after it, so it's yours to do as you please...
ReplyDeleteLicks and sniffs,
Zack, Sassy and Buddy
I'm with ya Jack! Glad to know I'm doing the ball game the good way :)
ReplyDeleteHugs and snaggle-tooth kisses,
Sierra Rose
Jack, you are so wise for one so young. What a great new way to play the game. Looking forward to your wise words for tomorrow.

Hi Jack! Nice to meet ya.
ReplyDeleteWe do this all the time too. Why should we bring the ball back to our hoomies? They throw the ball, we go run after it & then it's THEIR turn to fetch the ball from us. :)
I think you must have let Billy know that version some time ago, only he dosn't play ball, he does it with a softie! Funny!
ReplyDeleteHi Jack
ReplyDeleteHA HA you pulled a fast one on TG. You are one smart Lab. We believe the 'being' who does the work should get the prize and that was you!!!
However, Jack you must remember at all times....TG has the car keys
Madi and Mom
Jack,
ReplyDeleteThat's the way I plays catch with my mom and dad sometimes. Great minds think alike!

Hi Jack,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your concern about all the t-storms.
Since Friday night we have had 7" of rain at our house. I was trying to stay on high ground but then the thunder got pretty loud so I decided to move to 1/2 down the stairs. Then the Dad told me that was really not a good place for a kitty to sit and mumbled something about falling down and breaking every bone in his body. I really do not like thunder and lightning. Madi
At least Jack lets you have the ball, TG. Tootie grabs it in her mouth and runs off expecting me to chase her! Running in circles around the kitchen island is not for old people!

That's the NEW version? Hmmm, it's the only version Cabana knows! Cabana likes softballs that have just been hit by someone who is actually playing softball. The last two weekends at the park, "dog park" hours are finishing up, and people come to use the fields for softball. Thankfully, it's just during warm-up and not an actual game--but we've had to chase Cabana around the field several times, trying to get the ball back from her, finally wiping the slobber off sheepishly, as we hand the ball back to the batter....
ReplyDeleteGood job, Jack! Got keep everyone fit!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! What a fabulous new version of fetching. I LIKE IT! I'm definitely going to give this a try next time the peeps throw my ball.
ReplyDeleteSierra-dog
LOVE IT! I will try the new way "Jack's Way" next saturday at the Park!
ReplyDeleteI needs me more Jack...I'm hooked so very easily.
ReplyDeleteEllie liked playing like that too--she would usually would run after the ball like her life depended on it, then sniff it then go sniff something else :) But that was mostly before I taught her the version she's supposed to know....
ReplyDeleteWoof Jack,
ReplyDeleteWoo woo! A cliffhanger, we like it. We're chewing on our paws from all of the suspense. Hope all is well with you and you're enjoying this weird desert weather we're having.
Desert Pups,
Toby, Norman, Keiko and The Ghost of Scuba
"Siberian Husky" rules fetch. We are most familiar with that.
ReplyDeleteI had a dog who used to do this. Drove me crazy!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to play fetch Jack...I already like chewing on the ball...Now I know Do.Not.Bring.Ball.Back!!
ReplyDeletePaw bumps!
Jacob
You and Monty have been talking, haven't you? He does the same thing!
ReplyDeleteSam
My Grandpa Jack has a black lab and she's a hutting dog. Grandpa Jack calls her a "Labrador Bring-it-closer" instead of retriever because she doesn't quite always bring it back close enough. I think you and my Grandpa's dog might be related!
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly the way I fetch sticks. Why would I want to bring it back?
