How Did Chickenpox Get Its Name?
No wait, that's not right.

How Did Monkey's Eyebrow, KY Get Its Name?

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Oh now I remember.
How Did I Get My Name?
by Jack

Me

Today we are supposed to tell you how we got our names. I think I already talked about this once before, but I'll tell the story again, as there is nothing like hearing a good story for the 20th or 30th time! :)

Once upon a time, there was a young boy named Tall Guy. Tall Guy was very very sad, because he did not have a puppy to call his own. And to top it all off, his car had a flat tire. So, he called me to come to his house to lift up his car while he changed the tire and then he kidnapped me and made me stay with him. So that is how I got my name!

Tall Guy: Are you crazy????? I guess I'll have to take over and tell you the real story. Jack's whole and complete name is Sundancers Repairman Jack. Sundancers is the name of the wonderful breeders who decided one day they needed to make a Jack and so abracadabra, here he is. The rest of his name, Repairman Jack, is named after a character in a wonderful series of books by an author named F. Paul Wilson. Repairman Jack is a guy who goes around helping people. I knew from the minute I saw him that Jack would always be helpful to anyone who needed it, so there you have it.

Jack: Wait a minute? I'm named after a character in a book?

TG: Yep

Jack: So I could just have easily been named Ashley Wilkes?

TG: Uh..... no. You were ALMOST named Captain Jack after a tv show I was watching, but I don't think Gone With The Wind ever came into the picture.

Jack: Captain Jack would be cool. Let's change my name. You can call me Cap'n!

TG: Uh......no.

Jack: How about Iker Casillas?

TG: Hush.

Jack: So there you have it. Tune in tomorrow, when I, Captain Iker 'Jack' Repairman Casillas Wilkes will bring you another exciting episode of "What's My Name Today?" Oh, and have a great 4th!! Remember, the fireworks are just noise - they won't hurt you!

  3. Jack be thankful for your name - it's got to better than being called after a Real Madrid player. Are you going to get some 4th of July treats or is that Thanksgiving ?

  5. Repairman? Cool. We seem to have a knack for unrepairing stuff, so maybe we need a repairman in the Herd.

  7. Sheesh! That book character naming was a close call for sure. What if you had been named Little Dorrit? Or even, gasp, Heathcliff. I think you got off easy.

  10. Cap'n Jack,
Madi gets all doe eyed over the thought of you in a uniform with lots of medals. Now she has a bit of a problem. Will it be Cap'n Jack or Cap'n Ripley who wins her life long devotion. The answer is BOTH!! You two are polar opposites after all. We love the Sundancer part of your name.

Mom and Dad met a Scottie just like Jazzi yesterday. His name was Starbuck. Being the Starbuck junkie, Mom thought his Dad was too.
Nope Starbuck was named after the first Mate in Moby Dick. Don't you just love names!!!
    Happy 4th Cap'n Jack
    Madi and Mom

  14. Ahoy, Cap'n Jack! My mom LUVS the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and thinks you would make a terrific Cap'n Jack. As for the stories - well, the Tall Guy's story was good but I think I like your version better.

    Wiggles & Wags,
    Mayzie

PeeS. My dogness, that Madi is a bit of a coquette, isn't she? I think I will just keeps her flirtationsness secret from Cap'n Ripley. Cuz I like you and I wouldn't want him to "run you through" or anything.

  15. That's a great story, Jack! We were very careful not to call Sam anything - which may be why he doesn't always come when called. BOL! We will have to share the story of Crusty... err... Trusty the Great Dane with you one day! Boy, did we learn about naming from that one!
