September 30, 2015

Well, the tall guy was right!

The sun has been covered up with clouds for about a week now and it has rained a little almost every day.  All the leefs are falling out of the trees, except for the pine leefs.  They just stick on the tree.  The pine combs, however, have fallen all over the yard.  One word of advice:  do not try to eat the pine combs, because if you do, your mouth will soon be sorry.  And I'd hate to think of what your other end would feel like if you actually DID eat one.

  1. Dear Jack,

I agree - pine combs are one source of fiber that you can definitely do without!!
    Ruff Ruff!

I hope you and the Tall Guy have the chance to get out and enjoy the beauteous Fall weather - there should be lots of loose sticks on the ground soon for you to enjoy chewing on!

    Your friend,

  9. Clyde used to like to pick up pine combs as we were walking, he would just hold them in his mouth until I yelled at him to drop them.
Unfortunately, Clyde is no longer with us, he went to the Rainbow Bridge to run and play and be healthy again. He spent a wonderful 13 years with us and had ALOT of fun! Unfortunately, labs can be prone to a disease called Laryngeal Paralysis. He was always a very active dog, and loved camping, hiking, boating and swimming. the last year or two we noticed that he started breathing really heavy after walks, playing with kids, vet visits, anything stressful. When we moved to Florida last June his activity became 3 short walks per day just to do his business and back to the house, panting all the way. Our vet said that hot and humid weather can make the condition worse. Poor Clydie just laid around all day, the only time he would get up on his own would be when I woke up in the morning. Every morning I gave him a biscuit when I woke up, even in his condition, he still made sure of this ritual! The same was repeated at night before bed. When he stopped caring about the biscuits and just slept even more, or laid there and didn't get up we made the very, very difficult decision that he wasn't enjoying being a dog anymore. He just wasn't having fun. His breathing was limiting everything, and we couldn't watch him suffer anymore. His eyes told me to help him, and I promised him that I would. I sat on the floor with him at the Vet's office on the blanket that the tech provided for him to lay on. I held him in my arms hugging and gently kissing his soft furry head while the the meds were injected and long after the vet and tech left the room to give us some privacy. My tears falling on that large strong head that comforted me so many times while I looked down on my pup now sleeping so peacefully, no snoring, no wheezing. I was finally able to give him the comfort that he needed.

    1. I'm so very sorry to hear about Clyde! Our Yogi is a 12 year old yellow lab that is slowing down. Please always remember you gave Clyde the Best of all lives and LOTS of love!! Write down special things he did ... dogs are a blessing and at least I believe he will be waiting for you someday.
